Your Privacy

To give you the insights into how your behaviours impact your emotional wellbeing, we ask you to share the data that your smartphone collects. It's important to us you understand that your data is secure and not shared with anyone without your consent, so we've written our policy in simple language so that you can give your informed consent. How we collect, store, and process your data

Welcome to Rumii

We care about your privacy and want to make sure you understand how we handle your personal data. Here’s a simple guide to our data privacy and processing practices.

Who we are

Rumii is owned by Little Beginnings Ltd;  a company committed to improving access to psychological support for young people. As such, we understand the importance of protecting your personal data. If you have any questions about your privacy or this policy, please reach out to us at support@rumii.app. Little Beginnings Ltd is the data controller - that means it is the entity that decides why (for your insights, services) and how (through secure UK cloud servers) your personal data is processed.

What personal data do we collect?

  • Personal data - We collect your First name and Date Of Birth. Your First name allows us to personalise your dashboard and chat features, and your Date of Birth allows us to know you are old enough to give your digital consent, and allows us to give you wider insights based on other people your age. E.g 70% of people your age struggle with sleep patterns around the time of exams. It will pass.

  • Location data : We use GPS data To understand how you spend your time and what this could mean for your emotional wellbeing, when combined with other sensor data.

  • Motion data: We use Accelerometer sensors, and Apple's 'motion kit' to understand your physical activity patterns and how these are linked to your mental health

  • Device usage data: Though we do not store this data, we provide a 'portal' to Apple's 'Screen Time' functionality, To provide you insights into your habits based on app usage and screen time, and enable functionality for you to set personal limits for yourself.

  • BLE signals: To better understand the likelihood of you being in social contact, we use Bluetooth signals from nearby devices to see how physically close you are to others.

  • Healthkit Data  With your permission, we collect health data like your steps and activity levels from Apple HealthKit,  to understand how your movement patterns are linked to your mental health, and to enable future functionality to integrate wearable insights.

  • We use your rear phone camera purely to project Augmented Reality exercises into your surroundings for a more immersive experience. We do not collect or store any of that data.

Why do we collect your data?

  • Improve your behavioural health:  To give you personalised insights into your patterns of behaviour and how they might be impacting your mental health

  • Create wider cohort insights: One of the biggest factors in our experience of life, is how we see our experiences as part of a collective whole. Rumii creates larger data insights based on all Rumii users to help develop and provide wider insights into cohort based behavioural health.

  • Personalise your experience To tailor the app’s features and content to better suit your needs.

  • Support your awareness: To help you recognise and manage potential changes in your emotional wellbeing, early.

  • To create larger, aggregated and anonymised data sets that can contribute to broader population insights about how behavioural health is linked to mental health. Aggregated means it is all joined together, so no one persons data can be linked to them.

Lawful basis of processing

We process your data based on your consent, which you provide when you agree to use our app and its features.

How do we protect your data?

  • Encryption We use strong encryption to protect your data while it’s stored and when it’s sent over the internet.

  • Access controls  Only authorized staff can access your data, and they are trained to handle it responsibly.

  • Regular Audits  We regularly check our systems for vulnerabilities and update our security practices.

Where do we store your data?

Your data is stored on Microsoft Azure secure UK cloud services, that are GDPR and HIPAA compliant, and trusted for their highest levels of data security

How long do we keep your data

We retain your pseudo-anonymised personal data (userIDs are kept separately from data and only accessible by the data controller) for as long as you use the app, and your fully anonymised data (userIDs are deleted) after for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with legal obligations. You have the functionality to delete your account and all of its data at any time. Where your data is already aggregated and therefore cannot be traced to you, it is not able to be deleted.

Who can see your data?

  • Just you: Your personal data is only visible to you and is not shared with any third parties for data mining, or targeting purposes.

  • The Rumii team: Authorized Rumii staff may access your data to help develop predictive models and personalised notifications. This data is kept separately from any identifying information, so the team will not know who the data belongs to. â€‹

  • When your data is anonymised and aggregated, it is used to support research and health organisations to better understand what causes change in behavioural and emotional health, in the aim of helping to create supportive interventions for the future.  This is not traceable to you and you cannot be identified by that data.

  • Where the app offers a 'paid for' service (e.g Generative Ai mentorship) you have the choice to either pay for that service yourself, or unlock a sponsorship on the asset store. When you pay for the service yourself, your data related to that service is completely private and is not used in any dataset. Where a sponsor pays for your service, you agree to exchange your anonymised, aggregated (untraceable) data for that service. This data is non-identifiable as part of a larger dataset.

  • Manage Your Data You can view your current and previous collected data as trends over time within the app

  • Privacy Settings You can adjust your settings

  • Opt-Out You can opt-out of specific data collection features if you choose.

  • You can delete your account, and with it your personal information and any information not already anonymised and aggregated.

International data transfers

Rumii belongs to a UK company, so all data is stored within UK servers. If ownership was transferred outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), we ensure it is protected with appropriate safeguards. We would let you know about any changes in ownership and how we will protect your data before any changes occur.

We might update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll let you know through the app or by email.
